Getting Real
The "gimped" image you see above is a snapshot of how my homepage looked for the last 6 months. That is equivalent to atleast 6 million internet-years. Sure it did not take same number of human-years to build Rome. Its just that the (bloody) proverb suited the perfectionist and the procrastinator in me pretty well. I have got real now. After all Web and Greece Italy are not the same.
It is awesome how some amazing stuff can be hacked together on the web in no time at all. To start an own blog for instance, it takes only a few minutes. Even building one that is "feature packed" does not take more than a couple of hours. Okay.. so you can start blogging in nanoseconds on blogger or wordpress or 1001 such sites. But what I mean by having an own space is the one that you build for yourself and not just sign up for. And of course, by building for yourself I do not mean you go ahead and rewrite TCP/IP. It just means that you should have complete control over how your blog/site works for you. Building such sites is not more than a days job if you know what the right tools are.
Drupal was the obvious choice for me to do my own thing on the web. I have been using it at work for 4 months now and am overwhelmed by what drupal has to offer. Drupal works right out of the box as a content management system. Modules and plugins can be used on top of drupal to create almost any kind of website. If you are thinking of adding features, head on to the drupal plugin/module directory and am sure you will find something that you have to just hook in. Or you can find something that almost works and post a support request for the customizations you need. In some rare cases when noting works, building drupal modules yourself is even more fun and works all the time.
I am planning to a lot of stuff with this site, both drupal and non-drupal. A neat idea that should keep me on track is the public TODO NEXT block.

There is no "impressive display" planned. For sometime it would be only small little TODOs.
The key word here is 'configured' and not 'built' ....lol
Why this sarcasm mate .. okay you make your point about configuring cms to suit ones needs etc but taking this a step further, if I have to sed 's/built/configure/g' all thats said in this post ...........
Rome was not configured in a day , was it then :)
